MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — A five-story parking garage was the topic of discussion during the Myrtle Beach Community Appearance Board meeting on Thursday afternoon.

TMP Partners, a Tennessee-based architecture firm, presented designs to the appearance board on behalf of Grand Strand Medical Center. The structure aims to provide additional parking capacity as the hospital continues to grow.

If approved, the 260,000 square foot garage would be situated between the main entrance and a prominent cell tower entrance.

The design includes electric vehicle charging stations. However, committee members raised safety concerns about the garage being close to a gas tank.

Committee members also emphasized that landscaping will be a significant aspect of the final approved design, as the garage will be visible along the nearby Highway 17 Bypass.

The project team is now working to finalize details around the entrance design, traffic flow, property lines, and adjacent parcels.

Once all designs have been approved by the Community Appearance Board, it will then go to city council for final approval.
