MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. (WBTW) — Some passengers at Myrtle Beach International Airport were a portion of those affected Monday after an outage that Delta CEO Ed Bastian said on Sunday caused about 3,500 flights to be canceled through the weekend.

The global outage took down Microsoft systems around the world after a faulty update from a cybersecurity firm called CrowdStrike.

Bastian said many of Delta’s applications run on Microsoft Windows, which was affected by the CrowdStrike issue. Other airlines were also affected, but not to the severity of Delta. United Airlines canceled 17 flights, while another 112 of the carrier’s flights were delayed.

MYR spokesperson Ryan Betcher said that most airlines have bounced back after the outage, but said it’s understandable why others are still slowly recovering.

“A couple airlines have been struggling a little bit more so than others, it really is when you look at the complexity of airline networks and how many aircrafts are in their fleets, and then you start getting into crew scheduling,” he said. “It’s understandable why sometimes that it doesn’t come back kind of as quickly as possible.”

One passenger visiting Myrtle Beach for a business trip said that they were among the group of people’s whose flight was canceled Friday and is still trying to find another flight. They said it’s been a difficult situation to navigate, having to keep re-booking hotels and rent cars.

Joyce Crawford, another passenger trying to fly out of MYR with Delta on Monday, visiting from Kansas City, Missouri, said she remains confused on what will happen next.

“You know, people don’t really have two days to spare. Life goes on and I need to go home,” Crawford said.

She said it’s difficult to sit around and wait when she runs a day care back home. She said it was lovely coming to the beach for the first time in Myrtle Beach and enjoying the time to relax with her family, but that now the trip has become stressful as she says her flight rescheduled for Wednesday could be subject to possibly change.

“My backup plan may be to go to another airline, which I would hate to do because I got good prices good rates on Delta,” she said. “You don’t know what to do. Should I go? Should I stay? Should we go get something to eat? You know, it’s confusing.”
