Sunday, December 23 11:00 am, ESPN Brooks Stadium, Conway, SC Bowl Affiliations : AAC, CUSA, MAC, Sun Belt Last Season: Ohio 41, Georgia Southern 21 Preseason Bowl Projection (with predicted final regular season records) Cincinnati (6-6)* vs Coastal Carolina (7-5)
Why this is the preseason Myrtle Beach Bowl Projection
There’s an unfounded theory in play here that Cincinnati is just close enough to its former American Athletic Conference era - it’s obviously a Big 12 team now - to fit in here. It has to go somewhere - ESPN will want as many Power Four teams as possible - and it would be a decent matchup for a strong team from - probably - the Sun Belt.
It’s no fun for Coastal Carolina to stay at home - especially after going to Hawaii last bowl season - so flip a coin between it and James Madison to take what would be an almost certain Sun Belt spot.
If it’s not Cincinnati, then assume it would be a MAC team - likely one of the top teams - considering there won’t be too many Conference USA teams available.
