MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WTVO) — Residents in Machesney Park are set to see their property taxes go down in 2024, thanks to a $1.6 million grant to the Harlem School District.

The Illinois State Board of Education’s Property Tax Relief Grant will provide the funding, which will allow the school district to reduce property taxes.

“Ensuring all students – regardless of ZIP code – have access to high-quality education is vital,” said Sen. Steve Stadelman (D-Rockford). “The grant awarded to Harlem School District 122 will help lower property taxes for area residents, while increasing funding adequacy for school districts.”

A total of 155 districts applied for a portion of the $49 million grant, and 32 districts, including Harlem and DeKalb, received it.
