ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — The last Rockford basketball player to play for the Northern Illinois University men’s basketball team was Auburn High School graduate Laytwan Porter in the 2016-17 season. The next one to suit up for the Huskies might be a current Auburn basketball player.

Amir Danforth indicated on social media Monday evening that he has an offer from NIU and head coach Rashon Burno. Danforth will be a junior at Auburn this fall. In his sophomore season, he led the Knights in scoring at 16.9 points per game. He was named First Team All-NIC-10.

Auburn won 20 games last season and posted a 14-4 record in the NIC-10.

Danforth is the nephew of Houston Rockets guard and former Rockford Auburn great Fred VanVleet. Danforth has plenty of time to make up his mind about where he’ll play college ball. Many more offers are bound to comes his way.
