ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — The IceHogs have assured themselves of having more leadership in the locker room and on the ice next season. They have re-signed 27-year-old defenseman Austin Strand to a one-year AHL contract.

Strand played in 38 games for the IceHogs last season after being acquired in December in a trade with the Chicago Wolves. He scored five goals and added five assists. He also played in all four of the IceHogs’ playoff games against the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Strand has played with five AHL teams in his career. In addition to the IceHogs and Wolves he has also played with the Ontario Reign, the San Diego Gulls and the Rochester Americans.

In an IceHogs news release Wednesday IceHogs President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Mark Bernard stated, “He brings experience and energy to the rink each day and is someone that can help carry the coaching staff’s message into the locker room. He will be a great asset this year as we will have a lot of young prospects that he can be a mentor to.”
