ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Police arrested Alfredo Anaya, 35, for allegedly stealing a man’s maroon Cadillac CTS and using it to “run errands.”

On August 20, around 10 p.m., officials responded to the 1900 block of Vermont Street for a residential burglary complaint. Two hours before, the victim came home to realize his front screen door was unlocked and his Cadillac was not parked outside.

Police searched the vehicle and found crack cocaine and a glass pipe. Anaya was taken into custody shortly after.

During an interview with authorities, Anaya explained after a failed transaction for narcotics, he saw the vehicle unlocked and parked on Vermont Street with the keys inside. He then stole the Cadillac, according to court documents.

He also told police he used the car to run errands and pick up personal property from a previous address the day after he stole it. He then picked up two people and went to EZ Pawn to pawn a pair of shoes, according to court records.

The suspect told officials that everything in the car was his except for the crack cocaine. neither of the passengers claimed the cocaine either.

Anaya has a record of 13 total arrests and six convictions involving a myriad of different crimes.
