27-year-old murdered in shooting on E. State Street overnight Sunday

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A 27-year-old man is dead after a shooting on E. State Street overnight Sunday.

According to Rockford Police, authorities were called to a parking lot in the 6600 block of E. State around 11:15 p.m. where a “large gathering” occurred.

The victim, later identified as Chase Higgins by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office, was found dead at the scene, from multiple gunshot wounds.

According to authorities, a fight ensued between Higgins and others at the event, and a shootout ensued.
