    Police arrest driver who fled the scene after man killed in Sunday crash

    ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A Rockford man is accused of causing a crash that left a 48-year-old man dead and injuring a woman and two children on Sunday.

    According to Rockford Police, officers responded to a two-vehicle crash at Holland Street and Lincoln Avenue around 11:55 p.m.

    The victim, identified as Gwandoya Simon, was taken to a hospital but died from his injuries.

    The two juveniles and an adult woman were also taken to a hospital, with what authorities described as non-life-threatening injuries.

    Police said Felipe Serrano, 25, the driver of the offending vehicle, left the scene but was found by police a short time later.

    He was arrested and charged with Failure to Report an Accident Involving Death, Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash, multiple traffic offenses, two outstanding arrest warrants, and an outstanding Ogle County arrest warrant.

    He was booked into the Winnebago County Jail.
