Police nab suspected Rockford drug dealer in foot chase

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Police have seized cannabis, cocaine, and Ecstasy after chasing down a suspect who drove off from a traffic stop and then later ran from officers on foot.

According to Rockford Police, officers with the Specialized Community Oriented Police Enforcement (SCOPE) team, which often works overnight hours in plainclothes and unmarked cars, attempted to stop a car in the 3100 block of Parkside Avenue around 10:15 p.m.

Police said the driver fled the scene and the vehicle was located later near Glenwood Avenue.

The driver, later identified as Javar Davis-Puckett, 35, reportedly ran and was chased on foot. Police said “after a brief struggle,” Davis-Puckett was subdued and taken into custody.

Officers said 400 grams of cannabis, over 28 grams of cocaine, and multiple Ecstasy tablets were found.

Davis-Puckett was charged with Possession with Intent to Deliver Cannabis, Possession with Intent to Deliver Cocaine, Possession of a Controlled Substance, Fleeing to Elude, Resisting Arrest, and multiple traffic violations.

He was booked into the Winnebago County Jail.
