ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Police arrested Dequarisce Hayes, 27, and Rayshawn Montgomery, 31, for alleged possession of a firearm among other charges.

On August 28th, officials were in the 600 block of Salter Avenue conducting surveillance. Around 11:47 a.m., authorities saw Hayes walk to a silver Volkswagen Jetta and retrieve a handgun.

Hayes was seen pacing in the parking lot watching every car that passed the Soar Assembly Building, according to court records.

Police said he then proceeded to enter the driver’s side of the Jetta and Montgomery joined him in the passenger’s side of the vehicle. The vehicle did not have a front license plate, so officials followed the Jetta, reports said.

Authorities followed the car eastbound over the Morgan Street Bridge and initiated their emergency lights when the Jetta entered the roundabout on College Avenue at Seminary Street.

The car passed a vehicle in the roundabout and hit another car on Seminary Street, according to court documents. The car turned east onto Gregory Street, Hayes parked the Jetta and the two suspects fled, officials said.

Both suspects were taken into custody in the 300 block of Bremer Street.

Montgomery and Hayes were on parol at the time of the arrest for delivering heroin and possession of a firearm.

Hayes is being charged with aggravated fleeing and damage to property, felon possession of a firearm and resisting an officer.

Montogomery is being charged with felon possession of a firearm.
