    Oregon man drove through fields, hit a utility pole in Ogle County DUI crash, police say

    ROCHELLE, Ill. (WTVO) — An Oregon, Illinois man has been arrested and charged with driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol and leaving the scene of an accident early Tuesday morning.

    According to the Ogle County Sheriff’s Office, William Mongan, 31, was headed southbound on S. Center Road around 5:39 a.m. when he lost control of his beige 2005 Chevrolet 2500 pickup, drove through a corn field, crossed E. IL Route 38 (Lincoln Highway), drove through a bean field, crossed S. Center Road again and hit a utility pole in another corn field before turning around and getting back on Lincoln Highway, when the vehicle was disabled.

    Mongan was injured in the crash, police said, and was taken to Rochelle Community Hospital.

    He faces charges of DUI Combination of Drugs and Alcohol, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Improper Lane Usage, Operating an Uninsured Vehicle, Transportation of an Open Alcohol Container, and not wearing a seatbelt.

    He was released on a notice to appear at a future court date.

    Mongan was arrested previously in the same area after police reportedly found him passed out behind the wheel of a car in the middle of the road.

    According to the Ogle County Sheriff’s office, on July 19th, Mongan was found on Lincoln Highway near S. Center Road around 9:19 p.m. He was arrested for driving under the influence of drugs and stopping in the roadway.
