Freeport residents get a look at Oscar Mayer’s iconic Wienermobile

FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — Freeport residents lined up at Sullivan’s Foods on Thursday for a chance to get a look at Oscar Mayer’s Wienermobile.

The kitschy vehicle made a stop at the store, located at 2002 W Galena Ave, to celebrate the Sullivan’s 57th anniversary.

Those who attended were able to get Oscar Mayer hot dogs for $1.

The Wienermobile is one of a fleet of vehicles operated by the brand and is shaped like a hot dog on a bun. The original vehicle debuted in 1936 and briefly changed its name to the Frankmobile in May 2023. It then changed back in September 2023.

“It’s just awesome, just an awesome time to see it. I’ve seen it on TV but I’ve never seen it actually live like this. And it’s just wonderful. Wonderful experience,” said resident Timothy Offill.

All proceeds from the hot dog sales will go to Freeport-area food pantries.

The Wienermobile also visited Sullivan’s Foods, at 703 N Elida Street, in Winnebago, until 6 p.m. on Thursday. It will make stops throughout the state this weekend.
