Longtime Rockford Italian restaurant Capri announces Loves Park opening date

LOVES PARK, Ill. (WTVO) – Owners of longtime Italian restaurant Capri on Saturday announced an opening date for their new location at 6480 E. Riverside Blvd. in Loves Park.

“Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 28th as our Carry Out will be open for business at 4:00 pm that day!” the restaurant posted on its Facebook page.

The news comes just shy of two years since a kitchen fire gutted the inside of their original building at 313 E. State St. in downtown Rockford.

“While we are so grateful for all the years we had at our original State Street location we are beyond excited to be opening our new location in Loves Park!” Saturday’s post continued.

Brothers Vito and Domenic Grisanzio opened Capri in 1963 in Rockford. A fire broke out on Oct. 27, 2022, causing about $300,000 in damages.

The Grisanzio family later announced that they were moving to a former Shell gas station in Loves Park after costs to remain in Rockford far exceeded initial damages.

An opening date for Capri’s new dining room has not been announced.
