    NIU upsets No. 5 Notre Dame in shocking fashion

    SOUTH BEND, Ind. (WTVO) — Northern Illinois University’s football team defeated college football’s fifth-ranked team, Notre Dame, 16-14 on Saturday.

    The Fighting Irish struck first with a touchdown in the first quarter, but NIU’s Huskies responded with a touchdown of their own.

    NIU kicked a field goal at the end of the first quarter and in the second.

    Notre Dame went on to score a touchdown in the third quarter, but the Huskies were able to fend them off with another field goal in the fourth.

    The game was sealed by a 62-yard field goal attempt blocked by NIU on the last play of the game.
