ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Police arrested Stanley Hardgraves, 38, for allegedly strangling a woman among other charges.

On August 22, 8:09 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of Pierpont Avenue for theft. The woman told officials the incident started with an argument over who would drive back from Levings Lake Park.

She sat in the driver’s seat when Hardgraves reached over from the passenger seat and strangled her, according to court records. The victim told authorities he proceeded to take her phone and keys.

The suspect started to walk north on South Pierpont Avenue and she followed him until he gave her keys back, reports said. He kept the phone, the woman told officials.

Hardgraves is charged with aggravated domestic battery and strangulation along with theft.
