FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — Freeport Police are advising the public that gunshots fired in an early morning incident were likely “not a random act of violence.”

Police said around 3:52 a.m., the Sound Thinking (formerly ShotSpotter) gunshot detection system alerted authorities to the sound of shots fired in the 400 block of E. Prospect Terrace.

Officers responded to the scene and found evidence that a gun had been discharged behind a property, but there were no reported victims or property damage.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact Freeport Police at (815) 325-8222.
