ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A leader of a Rockford gang has been sentenced to over 6 years in federal prison for selling cocaine and firearms in the city.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, Rogelio Ibarra, 34, is a member of the Rockford chapter of the “Insane Unknowns” street gang.

In a plea agreement, he admitted to prosecutors that between March 2021 and January 2022, he and other gang leaders would distribute cocaine to other gang members to sell on the streets, to fund the gang’s criminal activities.

He also admitted to selling firearms, despite a prior conviction that prohibited him from possessing them.

Ibarra was sentenced Tuesday in Rockford in the courtroom of U.S. District Judge Iain Johnston.
