ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Rockford community came together to pay tribute to a fallen Rockford Police K9 on September 14th.

K9 Nyx was killed in the line of duty during a police pursuit on January 28th. The city has memorialized and honored the K9 since, but this time the event was a little different.

The SM and SF Club with the Rockford Police Department held a memorial ride to honor the K9. The club is a nonprofit as well as a social club known for supporting the community.

An officer said this kind of event allows people to come together no matter their career.

“Riding seems to bring a good camaraderie for everybody, all walks of life, lawyers, doctors, factory workers, police officers, firemen, all that stuff,” said RPD Officer Matt Williams. “It brings them together and you can ride as one and have good conversation amongst people. Then they learn to support veterans and first responders.
