MOUNT VERNON, Ill. (WTVO) — A southern Illinois man won $1 million after buying a scratch-off lottery ticket from a Circle K gas station.

The ticket was a part of the $10 Million lottery game and was purchased at the Circle K at 1710 South 10th Street.

“My girlfriend scratched the ticket and kept on staring at it and saying, ‘This can’t be right, this can’t be right’ – so I took a look and then ended up saying the same thing,” said the winner. “Once it sank in that we had won $1 million, we were both dumbfounded and happy at the same time – a moment we will never forget.”

The winner plans to use his newfound wealth to buy a new house and maybe retire earlier.

The gas station is receiving a $10,000 prize of their own for selling the ticket.

Over 2.5 million instant tickets have been sold in Illinois this month resulting in $63.7 million in winnings, officials told FOX 32 .
