ROCKFORD, Il. (WTVO) — Police have apprehended an alleged carjacker after authorities say he and another unidentified suspect hijacked two women in Rockford on Saturday.

According to the Rockford Police Department, the women were parked in a vehicle in the 5200 block of Wilderness Trail around 3:40 a.m. when they saw an SUV drive slowly past them.

Once the vehicle had passed, the women said they got out of their vehicle and two men approached from the SUV, pointed guns at them, and demanded the vehicle.

Winnebago County Sheriff’s Deputies spotted the vehicle and the SUV traveling together a short time later and attempted to stop them.

The SUV crashed in the 3100 block of Main Street and the driver, identified as Javion Morehead, 19, ran off. He was chased down on foot and arrested.

The victim’s car was later found abandoned in the area of Day and Mulberry.

Morehead has been charged with Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking, Armed Robbery, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Use of a Machine Gun, and No Valid Firearm Owners Identification.

He was booked into the Winnebago County Jail pending a pretrial detention hearing.
