ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Police arrested Alpha Mugabo, 29, for allegedly punching and strangling a woman after looking at his cell phone.

On August 19th, officials responded to the 900 block of North Main Street for a domestic violence incident.

The victim told authorities she was looking at the suspect’s phone and they began to argue. Mugabo then grabbed her by throat and pushed her backward, according to court records.

The suspect proceeded to punch the woman in the face and grabbed her by the throat again, reports said.

Police saw visible marks on the victim’s neck. There had been three previous incidents involving the two, but officials were never involved, according to court documents.

Mugabo was booked on September 24th. He is charged with aggravated battery to a pregnant woman, domestic battery with bodily harm and aggravated domestic battery with strangulation.
