ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford residents who suffered from the impacts of severe flooding in July now have a chance at federal assistance.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is sending aid to Winnebago County to help homeowners with the cost of repairs and temporary housing.

“Now is where residents have to raise up their hand and say, ‘hey, I need help too,’ so, it’s…upon our residents to notify and alert FEMA that they need some of the assistance right now, too,” said 2nd Ward Alderman Jonathan Logemann. “If they needed to get a new washing machine or a new water heater, I would advise citizens to make that claim to FEMA if they suffered as a result of the storms. Saving your receipts is very important.”

Residents should have the following information ready when applying with FEMA:

    • A current phone number where you can be contacted,
    • Your address at the time of the disaster and the address where you are now staying,
    • Your social security number (or the social security number of a minor child in your household, if you`re applying on their behalf),
    • A general list of damage and losses,
    • Banking information if you choose direct deposit, and
    • If insured, the policy number or the agent and/or the company name.

To apply for assistance, visit disasterassistance.gov , download the FEMA app , or call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362.
