POPLAR GROVE, Ill. (WTVO) – Poplar Grove Village President Don Sattler has been charged with aggravated assault in a public place and disorderly conduct, allegations stemming from an outburst during a public meeting earlier this year.

According to Boone County court records, Sattler was charged Tuesday, Sept. 24, with single counts of each offense and must appear in court on Oct. 15.

Charges against him come after he became engaged in a verbal confrontation with Poplar Grove Trustee Jeff Goings on July 10 while the Board of Trustees was in executive session .

A 40-second clip of the incident shows Sattler get out of his chair, raise his fists, and shout to Goings, “Come on, let’s fight right now,” followed by an exchange of profanities. The video also shows Sattler follow Goings as Goings appears to be leaving the room.

Both charges against Sattler, 59, are misdemeanors.

Calls and emails to Sattler seeking comment were not immediately returned. Goings was unavailable for comment.
