Illinois highlights an overlooked safety feature during ‘Rail Safety Week’

(WTVO) — Illinois officials an often overlooked safety feature that could save lives at railroad crossings across the state.

The blue ENS signs list emergency contact numbers as well as specific details about each crossing. Chicago Metra also unveiled a special train wrap inspired by the signs.

The annual initiative “Rail Safety Week” is aimed at reducing accidents.

“Together we must work tirelessly to raise awareness about critical safety features,” said Operation Lifesaver’s Charlie Mathewson.

There were over 100 collisions last year at crossings located at street level.
