ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Murphy Doss, 51, for allegedly shooting two men, one fatally, at a MaxMart on Friday night.

Around 10:08 p.m., officials responded to the MaxMart at 922 Kilburn Avenue to find 34-year-old and 30-year-old victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were taken to local hospitals where the 30-year-old victim died.

Witnesses told authorities an argument was taking place between the suspect and a group of people. Doss then allegedly shot at the two victims and fled the scene, according to a RPD press release.

Later, Illinois State Police found the suspected vehicle at the Belvidere Oasis and Doss. A handgun and ammunition were found inside the vehicle, according to police.

The suspect was taken into custody and lodged in the Winnebago County Jail.

Doss is charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of attempted murder and unlawful use of a weapon by a felon.
