DIXON, Ill. (WTVO) — Dixon Residents came together to provide officials with feedback about how they feel regarding senior services.

The Department of Aging held a roundtable to discuss community concerns and what needs they feel are not being addressed. It is all part of the state putting together a new plan for the elderly community.

The plan will start in 2026 since it is required due to the Federal Older Americans Act.

Topics that were discussed included health care and financial stability. This opportunity also allowed residents to know the resources available to them.

“A large portion of the aging community doesn’t realize that there’s services available for them,” said Northwest Area Agency on Aging Executive Director Jeffrey Barnes. “And we want to spread the word that there are, in every community, services that are available through state and federal funding, to help them age better in place, to help them feel more secure.”

This was the only in-person roundtable for the area. A virtual meeting will also be held in the upcoming months. A draft of the plan on aging should be released sometime early next year.
