Rockford Guilford’s Greg Taylor named Chicago Bears Girls’ Flag Football Coach of the Week

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — Some representatives from the Chicago Bears were in Rockford Wednesday evening. They were at Swanson Stadium to recognize Guilford girls’ flag football coach Greg Taylor as the Chicago Bears “Girls Flag Football Coach of the Week.”

Each week, coaches are nominated for the honor by a panel of coaches. The program honors coaches in Illinois who develop players’ football skills, knowledge, character, leadership, discipline and teamwork abilities.

The Bears presented Taylor with a commemorative football, and they presented Guilford with a $2,000 donation that goes towards the girls’ flag football program. Taylor was touched by the honor.

“It’s very special. I was just informed by Gus (Gustavo Silva, Chicago Bears Manager of Youth and High School Football) that I’m the first male to receive this award in a girls’ sport being flag football for girls, and the other coaches that have received it have been the female coaches. I’m very proud to receive this because (coaching & helping) the girls was what my goal is .”

Guilford was 13-0 going into this week. Right after this presentation, The Lady Vikings raised their record to 14-0 by defeating Rockford Jefferson.
