ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — A vehicle fire that spread to a building presented a challenge to firefighters in Rockford’s Midtown District early Sunday morning.

According to the Rockford Fire Department, around 1:26 a.m., firefighters responded to 1111 3rd Avenue and found a blaze from a fully engulfed van that had spread to an adjacent building.

Fire officials said downed power lines in the area prevented firefighters from entering the building until they could receive assistance from ComEd.

“Firefighters faced challenging conditions, including a heavy fire load, the building’s layout, and cluttered storage areas,” officials said.

Additional units were called in, totaling 31 firefighters.

The fire was brought under control within 90 minutes and no injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Authorities said the fire caused an estimated $60,000 in damages.
