A weak stationary boundary draped across north-central Illinois has divided temperatures somewhat, with readings in the upper 70s across northwest Illinois and only in the low 70s to the east. Winds remains light Wednesday afternoon with high pressure centered across the northern Great Lakes. Under mostly clear skies Wednesday night overnight lows will once again fall into the 40s but will be a touch warmer than the last few nights.

Sunshine will prevail Thursday afternoon as winds turn to the southeast bringing afternoon temperatures into the mid and upper 70s. As a cold front nears from the northwest Friday cloud cover will slowly be on the increase. Despite that, temperatures are still expected to warm into the low 80s during the afternoon. Along with the warmth will also come the return of gusty winds, as southwest winds gust as high as 25-30 mph throughout the afternoon.

The cold front will pass late Friday night but with limited moisture around we are likely to stay dry through the night. By Saturday afternoon the front will stall across central Illinois, leaving much of the region under an easterly wind. This will cool temperatures a bit, with highs only reaching the upper 60s to low 70s.

A second cold front will move across Wisconsin and into northern Illinois Saturday night and Sunday. As it does, an even colder air mass will settle in bringing temperatures down into the 60s Sunday afternoon. Northwest winds throughout the day will gust as high as 30 mph.
