DEKALB, Ill. (WTVO) — Northern Illinois University announced Wednesday that it had received a $40 million gift that will fund a new health technology center.

The money was donated by the Baustert Family Foundation, which was started by Theo Baustert, who attended NIU in 1954-55.

The funding will go toward creating the Baustert-Bahwell Health Technology Center, which has a price tag of $87 million.

The State of Illinois is covering $77 million of the cost for the project, which is set to begin construction in 2026.
