(WTVO) — A majority of Illinois teachers are unhappy with their jobs, according to a new survey released by the Illinois Education Association.

The Red for Ed study found 60% of teachers and support staff are considering leaving the profession.

When asked why, 65% of respondents said they do not earn enough money; 65% said there is a lack of respect; 62% said their workload is increasing; 94% said they work extra hours outside of the school day; 97% said they spend their own money on supplies for their students and classrooms.

“The biggest reasons educators want to leave is a lack of respect, an increasing workload and money. Just think about that for a second. Would you want to pour your heart and soul into a job where you’re not appreciated and constantly being asked to do more for less money? Probably not,” IEA President Al Llorens said.

The IEA said the news comes amid a critical teacher and support staff shortage in Illinois and nationwide.

Need more punishment in schools or they will never have respect!!! The schools are just like the prisons nowadays no accountability for anything causing abuse of teachers and bullying then government wants to punish parents for corporal punishment in the home!!! Forcing kids to think they can do whatever with no consequences

Why? Because they can’t indoctrinate the children? Good, be gone!
