The Rockford IceHogs kick off opening night with a block party

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — The Forest City community gathered for the opening night of IceHogs hockey. But, before the game, fans came together for a block party celebrating the Hog’s first game of the season.

The event was hosted by the Hard Rock Casino Rockford at the BMO Center.

The celebration featured live music by a Chicago-based Dave Matthews Band tribute group, local food trucks, T-shirt giveaways and a red carpet entrance made by the players.

The city has been anxiously awaiting the season and fans shared their excitement for tonight’s game.

“I like coming out here, I’ve been coming to games since 2013, so I really like the atmosphere,” said Michael McCarthy.

McCarthy said he is excited to see what the BMO has to offer.

“I’m looking forward to the new arena, I haven’t seen the arena yet but they say new seats, new cupholders and all that stuff so I’m looking forward to that.”
