Rockford IceHogs open season in style with big win over Grand Rapids

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — The Rockford IceHogs’ season could not have gotten off to a better start. Saturday night, the IceHogs defeated the team that bounced them from the playoffs last season the Grand Rapids Griffins 4-1 in front of a crowd of 6,242 at BMO Center.

Colton Dach, Kevin Korchinski, Cavan Fitzgerald and Samuel Savoie all scored their first goals of the season for the IceHogs as they opened up a 4-0 lead in the second period. The Griffins got their lone goal in the third period from Brogan Rafferty.

The IceHogs outshot the Griffins 33-19. Drew Commesso picked up his first win in goal. He had 18 saves while allowing only the one Grand Rapids goal.
