ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Firefighter Richard Macias is in intensive care after suffering a traumatic brain injury in a weekend crash, according to family.

Macias was injured in a crash that happened on Saturday, October 12th, according to a GoFundMe shared by the Rockford Fire Department.

“One of our Brothers was involved in a terrible accident over the weekend. We ask that you please keep him and his family in your thoughts and prayers,” said City of Rockford Firefighters Local 413.

Macias is currently under care of physicians in Madison, Wisconsin.

“He is currently in the neuro ICU sedated and on a ventilator. Richie is a fighter and is showing some signs of improvement but he has a long road ahead of him,” said fundraiser organizer Kacey Malady.
