‘Oh my gourd!’: Where to find pumpkins in the Rockford area

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) – The fall season means pumpkins are being harvested at farms across the region.

Illinois grows the most pumpkins in the United States by acreage and weight, and the Rockford area has some of the best places in the state to get them.

Although this year’s harvest began in late August, there are still plenty of picking at apple orchards and pumpkins patches around the stateline. Here are some of the area’s favorite spots.

Curran’s Orchard, 6385 Kilburn Ave., Rockford

Curran’s offers a variety activities including apple picking and selection of pumpkins. Open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., daily.

Edwards Apple Orchard, 7601 Centerville Road, Poplar Grove

Open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily through October, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through November with a vast selection of pumpkins.

Edwards Apple Orchard West, 8218 Cemetery Road, Winnebago

Edwards Apple Orchard West has plenty of pumpkins and is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Sunday, Dec. 1.

Valley Orchard, 811 E. State St., Cherry Valley

Open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, Valley Orchard is a 35-acre farm with plenty to do and a large selection of pumpkins.

Lindberg Pumpkin Patch, 3178 Illinois Route 173, Caledonia

Open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, Lindberg Pumpkin Patch grows more than 50 types of pumpkins on its 50-acre Caledonia farm.

Thyme and Again Farm, 10944 IL-2, Rockford

There’s a wide variety of pumpkins at Thyme and Again. The farm also offers squash and apples. Hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Run-A-Muc has thousands of pumpkins, more than 10,000, actually. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday.
