MACHESNEY PARK, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — The Boylan Titans pulled away from a 1-1 halftime tie to defeat the Harlem Huskies 6-2 in a NIC-10 boys’ soccer match Tuesday night at Clyde F. Peterson Stadium.

Both teams were 7-0 in conference play and tied for first place going into the match. The Huskies scored first on a goal from long range by Romeo Vazquez. That came with just under 15 minutes to play in the opening half.

The Titans answered with a header goal by Max Herndnez off a corner kick by Reese Schlichting to tie it. In the second half, Boylan midfielder Jesus Mandujano scored back-to-back goals to put the Titans up 3-1. Alvin Hernandez made it 4-1 with a header goal. The Titans then added two more insurance goals while the Huskies also tacked on a late goal.

With the win, Boylan has clinched at least a share of the NIC-10 championship. The Titans can claim it outright with a win in their final conference game Thursday night at Guilford. Harlem, now 7-1 in the conference will play 7-1 Belvidere North Thursday in what will likely be a battle for second place.

Overall, the Titans’ record is 15-2-1. To view highlights of this match, watch the media player above.
