ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Joyaparis Walston, 33, for allegedly striking her child with an extension cord causing welts and bleeding on her arms.

On October 15, around 10:18 a.m., a Lincoln Middle School Resource Officer was called to a counselor’s office to talk with the harmed student. The girl said she preferred to tell the counselor what happened.

The victim told the counselor she and her mother started arguing because she shaved her arms, reports said. The argument escalated, and Walston hit the child with an extension cord on her forearms and left shoulder, according to court documents.

The resource officer observed scabs on her shoulder and dried blood on the side of her nose.

When Walston was confronted, she told the resource officer she needed to get items for the victim. The suspect then left the school.

DCFS told officers Walston would pick up another child at Summerdale Elementary School. Authorities waited at the school and took her into custody.

Walston is charged with aggravated battery of a child causing bodily harm and domestic battery causing bodily harm.

I can only think back to childhood days when a good ole whoopin kept me from doing whatever it was my Mother didn't approve of, but Iont recall ever being beaten until my nose bled and being left with welts and scabs. Most times, I had clothes on! Shaving one's own arms, tho? This started an argument? In middle school, there aint no tellin what other kids said to her to make that child want to shave her arms. Were they hairy? Child abuse is very real and no one should condone or allow it. However, alotta these kids be needin they ssa whooped n I def support n condone stern discipline as long as it doesnt cross the line into abuse 💯
