ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — Rockford Police arrested Duncan Michel, 21, for allegedly possessing a 3D-printed handgun without a concealed carry license after being detained for trespassing.

On October 17, around 1:44 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Loomis Street for a trespass incident. Metro Security said they had 3 people detained, one with a firearm.

The security officer told authorities she detained the 3 individuals when she saw them exploring an abandoned building. She said she found Michel with a firearm in his backpack, according to court records.

Michel told police he knew he was carrying the weapon and had a valid Illinois FOID card. He said the firearm did not have serial numbers because it was 3D-printed.

He told authorities he had a 3D printer at home and he was carrying the weapon for his safety.

Police found he did have a valid FOID but no concealed carry license.

Michel is charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon without a concealed carry license.
