BELVIDERE, Ill. (WTVO/WQRF) — For the better part of three quarters it looked like the Belvidere North Blue Thunder were on their way to a thunderous win in NIC-10 play Friday night. They led Hononegah 19-7 going into the fourth quarter, but the Indians dug down and delivered two touchdowns that quarter to come away with a 22-19 win.

The game-winning touchdown came in the final minute on a short run by Hononegah quarterback Dominic Kelly. That touchdown was set up a by Kelly bomb to Brayden Lane that put the Indians inside North’s five-yard line.

Until that fourth quarter surge, Hononegah hadn’t scored since its opening drive when Brock Anderson ran into the endzone from seven yards out.

Belvidere North followed that up by scoring three unanswered touchdowns on short runs by junior quarterback Andrew Bucci. He’s been filling in the last couple weeks since starting quarterback Nick Tapia suffered a separated shoulder.

Hononegah and Belvidere North are now tied for first place in the NIC-10 with 7-1 records. Harlem is right behind at 6-1 with a game on tap at Boylan at noon Saturday.

Hononegah’s final game next week will be against 1-7 Belvidere. Belvidere North has to travel to Harlem. For highlights of this game, watch the media player above.
