Houston man arrested in Illinois for fatal hit-and-run
HOUSTON, Texas — A suspect wanted in a fatal hit-and-run crash after leading Houston police on a pursuit has been arrested in Illinois. Jacolby Pendleton, a 30-year-old from Houston, is charged with murder in the 184th State District Court. The victim has been identified as 68-year-old Sharon Griffin. SAN ANGELO, Texas — Two suspects involved in a manhunt were captured after an extensive search by multiple law enforcement agencies. On Sunday, July 14, 2024, at approximately 7:00 p.m., the Tom Green County Sheriff's Office, San Angelo Police Department, and Texas Department of Public Safety responded to the 800 block of US Hwy 87 South regarding a gunshot victim. The victim was transported to Shannon Medical Center. Witnesses at the scene reported seeing a Hispanic female and a Black male running north from the incident into a wooded area. A perimeter was established, and a ground search was initiated.
Homicide investigation leads to arrest in Mesquite shooting
MESQUITE, Texas — An 18-year-old male succumbed to his injuries after a shooting on July 9, prompting a homicide investigation by the Mesquite Police Department. Officers responded to a report of a shooting at approximately 11:38 p.m. in the 3400 block of N. Town East Blvd. Upon arrival, they found Kavontae Slate, 18, of Mesquite, Texas, with a gunshot wound to his chest. An acquaintance was performing CPR, which officers assisted until Mesquite Fire arrived. Slate was transported to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries, according to the Mesquite Police Department.

Homicide investigation reveals murder-suicide on Airport Boulevard
AUSTIN, Texas — A murder-suicide involving a couple was discovered by Austin police earlier this month.On Wednesday, July 3, 2024, at approximately 10:16 a.m., Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a call of a stabbing at 4411 Airport Boulevard. According to the APD, the caller reported two people were dead. Upon arrival, officers and Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (A/TCEMS) found the body of Iris Hernandez-Perdomo, a 33-year-old Hispanic female, inside the residence. She was pronounced deceased on the scene.Also found inside the residence was Wilfredo Chavez-Chincilla, a 40-year-old Hispanic male, who was also pronounced deceased on the scene. Homicide detectives and crime scene specialists processed the scene and interviewed witnesses.The investigation revealed that Chavez-Chincilla allegedly stabbed his wife, Hernandez-Perdomo, causing her death before killing himself with the knife, according to the APD.Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Austin Police Department at 512-974-TIPS. Texas woman dies in single-vehicle crash near Dean
DEAN, Texas — A 59-year-old woman from Wichita Falls was pronounced dead at the scene of a single-vehicle crash near Dean on Sunday afternoon.Cynthia Pullin Figueroa was driving a 2005 Chevrolet Silverado north on FM 2393 when she failed to maintain her lane, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. The vehicle's right tire went off the roadway, leading Figueroa to overcorrect to the left, crossing into the oncoming lane and a barrow ditch.The vehicle traveled over a culvert, and Figueroa overcorrected again to the right, causing the Silverado to skid sideways, roll onto its left side, and come to rest on its top. ODESSA, Texas — An Odessa man died after being run over by his own truck at a Sonic drive-in, police said. The Odessa Police Department responded to the Sonic at 87th Street and Andrews Highway regarding an incident that resulted in the death of Joshua Lujan, 41 years old, of Odessa, Texas. Four sentenced for harboring undocumented aliens in Texas
McALLEN, Texas — Four individuals have been sentenced for harboring undocumented aliens, announced U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. Abel Cavazos, 45, of Mission; Rodrigo Acevedo, 24, and Darrel Palomares, 24, both of Donna; and Jesus Valdez, 23, of San Juan, pleaded guilty at varying times in early 2021. Chief U.S. District Judge Randy Crane ordered Cavazos to serve 63 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
