Royse City police arrest Dallas sergeant on felony theft warrant
ROYCE CITY, Texas — Sergeant Thomas Fry, 8003, of Detention Services, was arrested on July 13, 2024, on a warrant for felony theft by the Royce City Police Department. The arrest warrant was issued by the Dallas Police Department Public Integrity Unit following an investigation into allegations of criminal misconduct. Fry remains on administrative leave pending the outcome of an Internal Affairs Division (IAD) administrative investigation, according to a press release from the Dallas Police Department.
High-speed crash claims two lives in Odessa
ODESSA, Texas — A high-speed crash late Friday night resulted in the deaths of two individuals after their vehicle struck a street sign and crashed into Bowie Middle School. The incident occurred around 11:30 p.m. on July 12, 2024, when Odessa Police responded to the scene at 22nd and Golder. According to the Odessa Police Department, a black 2018 Nissan Altima was traveling eastbound in the 600 block of W. 22nd St. at a high rate of speed. The driver lost control, causing the vehicle to hit a street sign and the north fence of Bowie Middle School. The car continued through the fence and collided with the west side of the school building, where it came to rest.
Dallas man fatally shot, investigation ongoing
DALLAS, Texas — A 31-year-old man was fatally shot early Saturday morning, according to Dallas police. On July 13, 2024, at about 1:55 AM, Dallas Police responded to a shooting call in the 3500 block of St. Francis Avenue. The preliminary investigation determined that when officers arrived, they found 31-year-old Edward Upkins shot and lying on the ground. Dallas Fire Rescue responded and transported Upkins to a local hospital where he died. The investigation is ongoing, and the case will be referred to a Grand Jury. The case is documented under case number 107325-2024.
