Over 150,000 gallons of wastewater spilled in Houston in wake of Hurricane Beryl, power outages
HOUSTON, Texas — Intense rainfall and power outages from Hurricane Beryl have caused a significant wastewater spill in Houston. The spill, which occurred at 6747 Lawndale, resulted in the release of approximately 157,750 gallons of domestic wastewater, according to Houston Public Works. The incident, which took place on July 11, 2024, has prompted notifications to local officials and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

IH-27 widening project to begin with concrete barrier installation
RANDALL COUNTY, Texas — Crews will close the US 87 to IH-27 bridge north of Canyon on Monday, July 15, for concrete barrier installation, marking the start of the $312 million IH-27 widening project.The overnight work will occur from 7 p.m. on July 15 to 6 a.m. on July 16, according to the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT). Drivers traveling northbound to IH-27 should follow the suggested detour provided in the attached pictures.Following the initial installation, crews will continue placing temporary concrete barriers from the US 60 split just north of Canyon to south State Loop (SL) 335 in Amarillo. These installations, expected to be completed by early August, aim to ensure the safety of construction workers as the widening phase begins.The project, designed to increase safety and mobility on IH-27 by expanding it from four to six lanes, is slated for completion in December 2028. TxDOT advises drivers to exercise caution and reduce speed through all work zones. Man arrested for stabbing during street altercation in Texas
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A 56-year-old man was arrested Thursday after allegedly stabbing another man during a verbal argument on Ayers Street, police said. Officers were dispatched to the 800 block of Ayers Street at 11:39 a.m. and found Rolando Mendoza, age 56, of Corpus Christi, Texas, yelling at a 57-year-old man in the middle of the street, according to a press release from the Corpus Christi Police Department. The victim, who had a stab wound, received immediate medical aid from officers until medics arrived and transported him to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The investigation revealed that the two men had a verbal argument on the sidewalk before Mendoza displayed a knife and stabbed the victim. Mendoza was arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and taken to the City Detention Center for booking.

HOUSTON, Texas — A 32-year-old Beeville resident has been taken into custody for smuggling contraband into a federal prison, announced U.S. Attorney Alamdar S. Hamdani. Ashley Priscilla Garza made her initial appearance in federal court in Corpus Christi. Garza is charged with receiving a bribe as a public official.
