Willacy County Regional Detention Facility approved for full operation
HIDALGO, Texas - The Texas Commission on Jail Standards has approved the Willacy County Regional Detention Facility for full operation under La Salle Corrections.The regional detention facility, which met all state inspections and obtained necessary certifications, began operations with the transfer of inmates from the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office Detention Center. Man Found Dead in Houston Identified as Homicide Victim
HOUSTON, Texas - Houston police are investigating the death of a man found at 702 Girard Street on Wednesday night. The man has been identified as 56-year-old Damon Spiller, according to the Houston Police Department (HPD). HPD Homicide Division Sergeant J. Stroble and Detective K. Collier reported that HPD patrol officers and Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the address regarding an unresponsive man found in a residence. The Houston Fire Department pronounced Spiller deceased with no apparent signs to indicate the cause of death at that time. An autopsy conducted by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences determined Spiller's cause of death to be due to a gunshot wound. According to a preliminary investigation and evidence found, detectives believe a gunshot was fired from the area of the East Freeway (East Interstate Highway 10) ramp from the North Freeway (North Interstate 45) lanes. Detectives are seeking to speak with anyone who may have encountered anything suspicious in that area on July 20 or July 21. NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - A silver Chevy Malibu crashed into the Comal River after a high-speed chase through Landa Park on Thursday morning, according to the New Braunfels Police Department.At approximately 10 a.m. on July 25, 2024, officers responded to reports of a speeding vehicle in Landa Park. The vehicle, driven by Jaime Humberto Cruz Rodriguez, was located near Playground Drive but sped off as officers approached.
