Man arrested for animal cruelty in El Paso
EL PASO, Texas — A 29-year-old man from East El Paso has been arrested and charged with animal cruelty after a malnourished French Bulldog was found abandoned in a desert area.Marco Trent Butler, of East El Paso, was taken into custody on July 10, 2024, and charged with cruelty to a non-livestock animal, according to a press release from the El Paso County Sheriff's Office. The arrest followed an investigation that began on June 18, 2024, when the animal cruelty investigation unit was alerted to a video showing the severely emaciated dog.Investigators identified Butler as the owner of the French Bulldog, which was found to be malnourished and dehydrated. A veterinarian assessed the dog and determined its condition likely developed over two to three months. Man in critical condition after aggravated assault, police searching for suspects
SMITH COUNTY, Texas — Deputies are investigating a shooting that left a 67-year-old man critically injured Wednesday morning.At approximately 6:30 a.m. on July 10, 2024, deputies responded to a shooting in the 20900 block of CR 4129 in northern Smith County. Upon arrival, they discovered Rogieys Simmons, 67, had been shot in the upper body while standing at the front door of his residence. According to the Smith County Sheriff's Office, Simmons had been in an argument with two male suspects, one white and one black, just before the shooting. The suspects fled in an unknown vehicle down CR 4129.Simmons was transported to UT Health Tyler by UT Health EMS and is currently undergoing surgery in critical condition.
