BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah — A 22-year-old man was found dead after a vehicle crash early Tuesday morning near milepost 18 on I-84, authorities said. Box Elder Dispatch received a call at 5:44 a.m. from a passerby reporting a vehicle in a ditch. Troopers arrived at 6:04 a.m. and discovered a silver Toyota Sequoia with extensive damage down an embankment. The driver, identified as Emil Tuncel, had been ejected from the vehicle and was deceased.
Slcpd arrests 19-year-old man involved in deadly shooting
SALT LAKE CITY — The Salt Lake City Police Department announced the arrest of a 19-year-old man accused of fatally shooting 30-year-old Nico Christopher Patino. Detectives booked Abdihakim Mohamed into the Salt Lake County Metro Jail on one charge of aggravated murder. The investigation began at 4:03 a.m. on Sunday, May 26, 2024, when SLC911 received several calls about a shooting near 1800 West Fortune Road. Officers arrived to find Patino with a gunshot wound; he died at the scene.
Motorcyclist dies in Blacksmith Fork Canyon crash
BLACKSMITH FORK CANYON, Utah — A fatal collision occurred Monday evening involving two motorcycles traveling in opposite directions on SR 101. At approximately 8:30 p.m., a 2007 blue Suzuki, driven by 26-year-old Luis Salas of Nibley, Utah, was heading eastbound at a high rate of speed when it crossed into oncoming traffic and struck a 2004 white Kawasaki traveling westbound. Witnesses reported that the Suzuki failed to maintain its lane, leading to the leg-to-leg collision. Salas suffered fatal injuries, while the Kawasaki driver, a 27-year-old male, sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

BOX ELDER COUNTY, Utah — A 22-year-old man was found dead after a crash early Tuesday morning on I-84. On June 18, 2024, at 5:44 a.m., Box Elder Dispatch received a report of a vehicle in a ditch near milepost 20. Troopers arrived at 6:04 a.m. to find a silver Toyota Sequoia with extensive damage near milepost 18. The SUV was down an embankment and not clearly visible from the roadway. The driver, who had been ejected during the crash and rollover, was deceased.

Witnesses reported that the Suzuki was speeding before the crash, and its driver failed to maintain their lane, crossing into oncoming traffic and striking the other motorcyclist leg to leg. Valdeci Passos-Soares, a 47-year-old citizen and national of Brazil, was sought by Brazilian authorities for drug trafficking and possession of firearm ammunition. He was removed from Las Vegas and transported by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Air Operations to Belo Horizonte, Brazil, where he was handed over to local authorities.

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah — A Salt Lake City woman has pleaded guilty to using the dark web in an attempt to carry out a murder-for-hire scheme in 2023. Krista Renae Stone, 23, of Salt Lake City, pleaded guilty on May 30, 2024, to felony charges of using interstate commerce facilities in the commission of murder-for-hire, according to court documents. From March 2023 to September 2023, Stone used the dark web to arrange the murder of another individual, agreeing to pay $5,000 in Bitcoin for the act. Stone provided a detailed description of the victim, including a photograph and location, as well as instructions on how she wanted the murder carried out.

Fatal motorcycle crash claims life in Wasatch County
WASATCH COUNTY, Utah — A 31-year-old motorcyclist died Sunday after losing control and crashing into a guard rail on Northbound 189 near mile marker 16 in Provo Canyon. The incident occurred at approximately 2:21 p.m. The motorcyclist, who was traveling with another rider, was thrown from the vehicle upon impact and sustained fatal injuries. The motorcycle continued approximately 200 yards up a hill before coming to a stop. Authorities closed Northbound traffic for investigation and cleanup.
