(NEW YORK) Demonstrators gathered at Grand Army Plaza on Monday to march through Brooklyn and protest the killing of Daunte Wright, a 20-year-old Black man who a Minneapolis police officer shot during a traffic stop on Sunday.

The march in Brooklyn was part of a larger wave of protests against police violence in response to Wright’s killing in New York and around the country.

Protesters also gathered at Washington Square Park and Washington Heights on Monday for marches in response to the killing.

The most intense demonstrations have taken place in Minneapolis — where Wright was killed and where the trial of Derek Chauvin, the police officer who killed George Floyd, is currently on trial.

Video of Chauvin killing Floyd by kneeling on his neck while he was handcuffed and lying prone on the ground sparked outrage and led to nationwide protests.

Further protests over Wright’s killing are planned in Brooklyn over the coming days. Riders for Black Lives plans to meet at the Barclays Center at 6 p.m. to hold a vigil and bike procession to honor Wright’s life.

Need to change police policies written as laws to kill black minority men and women. White and Black politicians know this and nothing is being done. I’m tired hearing politicians say ‘Stay calm’ Enough is enough!!
