NYC DOT announces electric scooter pilot program for the Bronx

(THE BRONX, N.Y.) An electric scooter pilot program is headed to the eastern part of the Bronx, officials revealed Wednesday, according to NY1.

Phase one of the program will bring the pilot to Wakefield, Williamsbridge, Co-op City and Morris Park.

Phase two will bring the e-scooters to the southern neighborhoods like Parkchester, Soundview and Throggs Neck.

These neighborhoods are considered "transit deserts" as public transportation is not as accessible in them.

City Transportation Commissioner Hank Gutman and Bronx Councilman Fernando Cabrera held a news conference Wednesday where they announced the three companies that were chosen for the program — Birdride, Limebike and Veo — along with pricing and accessibility.
