(NEW YORK) Former 2020 Democratic presidential candidate turned candidate for New York City mayor Andrew Yang saw a widening gap in new polling between his second-place rival, Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams.

Politico reports, per a Data For Progress poll, found 26% of voters are supporting Yang, double the 13 percent who said they would support Adams.

City Comptroller Scott Stringer received 11% of support, while former City Hall attorney and MSNBC legal analyst Maya Wiley came in fourth place at 10 percent. The rest of the crowded field received support in single digits.

The polling also found Yang benefitted from ranked-choice voting, a new vote choice system for city elections. Thirty-one percent named him their second choice pick, compared to 13% for Adams and Stringer and 11% for Wiley.

“There’s going to be lots of room for persuasion in this race, but it is very clear to me that Andrew Yang comes in in the strongest position,” said Sean McElwee, co-founder of Data for Progress.

These strong polling numbers come amid reports Yang is receiving a $6 million advertisement boost by a new political action committee that would counter negative advertising against him.
