Highway shooting leaves 11-year-old passenger injured

(CONCORD, Calif.) On Monday, an 11-year-old girl was injured after someone in another vehicle shot at them while on Highway 4 near 680, East Bay Times reports.

The girl’s mother was driving at the time of the shooting that happened Monday morning at approximately 11:45 a.m. when two men in a white sedan pulled along the side their vehicle and tried to get their attention.

The woman told investigators that several shots were fired from the sedan as it drove past. The girl sustained an abrasion to her head during the shooting, according to the CHP.

The girl was released from a local hospital after being treated for her injuries. It has not been determined if she was hit with a bullet or with metal fragments.

The shooting wasn’t reported to the CHP until 12:45 p.m. on Monday by the hospital where the woman drove following the incident. The girl’s mother did not sustain any injuries during the shooting.

Authorities have not released a possible motive for the shooting.
